Each time Alison complained about her
dry hands I told her to use more lotion but
she never seemed to receive the message.
Finally, I went out and bought some lotion
for her and the problem seemed to clear up.
The more I watched Mary sleep the more
difficult it became to imagine her awake.
Some carry the traces of their waking to
their sleeping lives but for others it is the
reverse. Mary, I soon realized, was among
those sleeping beauties whose dormancy
occupies even their waking hours.
